Prosthetic Considerations for Life Care Planning

Notwithstanding the physical, emotional and phycological challenges associated with limb loss, these ever-present stress points are compounded with the added impact of financial pressures and challenges of paying for a prosthetic care. Prosthetic services, devices and upkeep is without a doubt costly, and can be a burden to budgeting for future costs is a lack of understanding what those future costs will be. This presentation will outline the fundamentals of identifying prosthetic life time cost projections to provide a clear methodology and outline what can be expected for future expenses for ongoing prosthetic care. Focus will be on identifying all relevant and specific expected costs to obtain a prosthesis, as well as maintain, replace and repair the device over a lifetime.

Bio: Dale Berry is an internationally recognized expert in prosthetic care, is licensed in Texas, Minnesota and Illinois, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists and has over 40-years of clinical care experience. Dale was selected to serve as Chair for a National Symposium at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital to set procedure and policy to treat soldiers injured with above knee amputation, served as Clinical Prosthetic Coordinator at Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Deschapelles Haiti to treat over 2,200 amputees that lost limbs in the Port-A-Prince 2010 earthquake and was Team Leader in 2002 for Operation First Step, a humanitarian relief effort to establish a clinic in Kabul Afghanistan to treat victims that lost limbs from land mines.
