Concussion and Brain Injury: Therapy to Resume Seeing the World
Everything is so clear in life one day and so quickly gone the next. What happens to the visual system after brain injury and concussion is overwhelming. How do you begin to address it in rehab and what can a client expect? Great questions and answers will be discussed by Michelle Mioduszewski in this talk about visual rehabilitation in occupational therapy after a neurologic event. Information on vision perception, ocular motor function, and the impact on daily function will be discussed in a user friendly way. Tips and tricks will be shared that can help clients overcome these daily challenges.

About The Presenter:
MICHELLE MIODUSZEWSKI, MS, OTR/L, has been practicing occupational therapy since 2000 in acute, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient settings. She also consults for legal, education, and professional situations. Since her thesis work focused on the impact of FIM testing for the patient with a CVA in the CMS PPS, she has made the pointed effort to work with the neurological population. Currently, Ms. Mioduszewski owns and operates Niagara Therapy, LLC, a team-oriented practice based in Erie, PA that offers OT, PT, and SLP to adults and children with neurological concerns. She is the AOTA Administration and Management Chairperson for the Rehabilitation and Disability Special Interest Section, National MS Society Board of Trustees, and is a National MS Society Partner in Care Designation. She also owns and operates Niagara Therapy Professional Services, LLC and Niagara Properties, LLC. A graduate of D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY, she was the youngest person to receive the Delta Sigma Award from the Marguerite D’Youville College Honor Society. In 2017 she was named 40 under 40 by the Erie Reader. Ms. Mioduszewski was trained in NDT and NEURO-IFRAH (NDTC), Bioness Certified, REO Certified, SAEBO Certified, and specialized in vision and cognitive rehabilitation. A published writer by AOTA Press, she also teaches on topics such as IASTM, Neuro-Rehab/Neuro-Handling, vision, cognition, spasticity, ergonomics and complex wheelchair evaluations.
