Pain Management and Orthopedics

The Newest Trends and UCR for the LCP

The emergence of new treatments in the last decade, particularly in pain management and orthopedics, has resulted in a simultaneous increase in the need to evaluate Usual Customary and Reasonable charges, excess charges and abusive medical billing activity. The legal profession is generating expanding interest and expectations for those in the medical field to recognize the relationship between the medical record and the fees charged.

Learning Objectives

  • Upon completion of the activity the LCP will have a familiarity with new orthopedic and pain management procedures.
  • The LCP will be able to research sources and recommendations for establishing a methodology to apply or predict a Usual Customary and Reasonable fee for these increasingly recommended services.
  • The LCP will understand the consequences of medical records that do not support medical charges and recognize the tools and education necessary to provide reliable testimony in this area.
